How to Verify a Blogger blog using Google Webmaster Tools

Google has made some new changes to the verification system in Webmaster Tools. One of these changes effects the way Blogger blogs will be verified in the future. The ‘one-click’ integration feature previously used, is no more. Blogger blogs will have to be verified using a meta tag verification method. The old method will be removed. Google is working on a new automated version of the meta tag verification method in the future, but for the time being, you will need to use these steps:

How to Verify Your Blogger Blog in Webmaster Tools

  1. Click the ‘Add a site’ button in your Webmaster Tool homepage
  2. Enter the URL of your Blogger blog & click ‘Continue’
  3. On the Manage verification page, select the ‘Meta Tag’ verification & copy the meta tag that is supplied
  4. Now login to your blog account and click ‘Layout’ (for the blog you’re verifying) from the dashboard
  5. Click on ‘Edit HTML’ link under the ‘Layout’ tab (this allows you to edit the blog’s html)
  6. Paste the meta tag (from Step 3) directly after the <head> element within the template’s HTML & click ‘Save Template’
  7. Back in your Webmaster Tools account, on the Manage Verification page, make sure that ‘Meta tag’ is chosen as your verification method & click ‘Verify’

Congratulations!

Your Blogger blog should now be verified, which means you should be able to use your Webmaster Tools!
